WHAT IS BOWENWORK? A gentle form of bodywork, the Bowen Technique was developed in Geelong, Australia, soon after World War II by Tom Bowen (1916-1982), a self-taught bodyworker. Over the course of many years, Bowen developed a precise sequence of delicate moves across muscles, tendons, and connective tissues, which are performed with great precision for a very short period of time.
Some practitioners compare the subtlety of the Bowen technique to tuning a stringed instrument. It is believed that the gentle moves stimulate energy flow, empowering the body to heal itself.

Bowenwork is a very effective bodywork therapy, where very gentle moves are performed over muscles and soft tissue, stimulating the nervous system to reset and heal itself. Frequent pauses between moves allow the body to process the message and commence healing. By combining moves, the practitioner can either benefit the body as a whole, or target a specific problem. Bowen- work doesn't seek to just mask symptoms and pain, but rather to encourage the body to recognize where there is dysfunction that is causing health problems.

WHO BENEFITS FROM BOWENWORK? Bowenwork is appropriate for everyone, from little newborns to the elderly. Results can be remarkable, even from the first session.

HOW IS BOWENWORK DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MODALITIES? Unlike most therapies, there is no manipulation or force to the body in Bowenwork. After a treatment:
- Structural misalignments commonly right themselves, but there is no forceful adjustments, as in chiropractic care.
- Muscle tension and strains are relieved, but the muscles are not squeezed as in massage.
- Internal psychological shifts are commonly reported, but it is not necessary as in most mind body therapies.
- Joint mobility, circulation of lymphatics and blood flow are restored, while elimination of toxins is improved.
- Nearly everyone reports a relaxed state, and a deep sense of well being and comfort.
- This therapy has no negative side-effects.
- Treatments are scheduled 5-7 days apart to give the body time to respond. Most clients see significant change in 2-4 sessions.
